What it is

Shul Widget puts your shul's davening schedule on your home screen and in a full app. Pick your shul once and it stays current — the next minyan with a live countdown, shiurim, events, 20 zmanim computed right on your phone, and local weather. No account or sign-in for everyday use.

Not affiliated with a listed shul? Choose “No Shul — Zmanim & Weather only” and it becomes a clean zmanim + weather app for your device location or a ZIP code.

What's inside

A full-screen alarm — vibration + sound, snooze or dismiss — a set number of minutes before a minyan or zman. Exact, and it survives reboots and Doze.

How to install (sideload)

This app isn't on the Play Store — you install the APK directly. It takes about a minute.

  1. Download the right APK. Most modern phones: the arm64-v8a file. Older / budget phones (TracFone, Moto E): armeabi-v7a. Not sure: the universal one (no ABI in the name). Flip phones: the -flip APK.
  2. Open the downloaded file. If Android says it can't install from this source, tap Settings on that prompt and turn on “Allow from this source” for your browser or Files app, then tap the file again.
  3. Get past the Play Protect screen. Android may show “Unsafe app blocked” or “Play Protect doesn't recognize this app.” Tap More details (sometimes shown as “see more”) → Install anyway. This is expected — see below.
  4. Open the app and pick your shul — or choose “No Shul — Zmanim & Weather only” for zmanim + weather by your location.
  5. Add widgets. Long-press the home screen → WidgetsShul Widget → drag out the ones you want. (On first launch the app also offers to add them for you.)

Why does Google warn me — is it unsafe?

No. The “Play Protect doesn't recognize this developer” / “Install anyway” screen appears for every app that isn't installed from the Google Play Store. It's about where an app comes from — not what it does.

Google designed Android to push installs through the Play Store, where apps are reviewed and Google takes a cut of any payments. Anything you sideload — install directly as an APK — gets this scary-looking prompt by default, even though sideloading is a normal, fully supported part of Android.

This app is open about exactly what it is: every release and the full changelog are public, it asks only for ordinary permissions, and it updates itself in place from this page. Tapping “Install anyway” is the right move.
